Fieldwork in Namibia

August 15, 2025

I was supposed to have a quiet summer this year, but a last-minute trip to Africa changed that! I accompanied my former advisor to northern Namibia to sample microbialite deposited during Snowball Earth.

After 17 hours of flying, we landed in Namibia's capital Windhoek and drove north to the village of Opuwo. I enjoyed driving on the left side of the road and spotting many African animals along the way. Once arrived, we measured and sampled several sections of the Rasthof Formation, a thick microbialite sequence deposited shortly after Snowball Earth.

I had a really awesome time experiencing fieldwork in a totally different geographical environment and culture.
